Community Safety Alert: Beware of Moped-Enabled Criminals |
||
|
We are reminding residents, commuters, and visitors to remain vigilant as criminals using mopeds continue to target busy streets, Tube stations, and train stations. These offenders often use mopeds to quickly approach victims, steal mobile phones, bags, jewellery, or other valuables, and then make a rapid escape. They frequently target people who are distracted whilst using their phones, walking near roads, or waiting outside transport hubs. How to Protect Yourself ✅ Keep your mobile phone out of sight when not in use, particularly near roads and station entrances. ✅ Avoid standing close to the kerb while using your phone or other valuables. ✅ Stay aware of your surroundings and be cautious of mopeds or motorcycles approaching unexpectedly. ✅ Secure bags and personal belongings, ensuring they are zipped and carried close to your body. ✅ Avoid displaying expensive jewellery, watches, or electronic devices in public. ✅ If possible, position yourself away from the roadside when making calls or checking directions. If You Witness or Become a Victim of Crime 📞 Call 999 if a crime is in progress or someone is in immediate danger. 📞 Report non-emergency incidents via 101 or online at www.met.police.uk. 📝 Try to note descriptions of the offenders, their clothing, the moped, and the direction of travel, but do not put yourself at risk. Working together and remaining alert can help reduce opportunities for criminals and keep our communities safe. #CommunitySafety #StayAlert #MopedCrime #MetEngage #CrimePrevention | ||
